Large Arts And Crafts Style Garden, Finchley, N3

This large Edwardian style house had recently undergone extensive renovations leaving the garden worse for wear. The owners required new hard landscaping and planting to the rear and side of the house to compliment the newly updated and extended property, and to provide a comfortable area for relaxing and entertaining.

The semi-circular terrace and Lutyens style steps made with reclaimed bricks and bespoke cut Indian Sandstone were designed to compliment the architectural features and materials of the house. To minimise waste, the existing Portland Stone rockery was recycled and reused for terracing on either side of the steps.

Softened by effusive shrub and flower planting, the south-facing rockery borders hug the terrace and steps creating a gentle transition from the extensive new patio down to the lawn, helping connect the old with the new. Formal in structure, the planting consists of topiarised Ilex crenata, Taxus baccata and Hebe, interspersed with colourful flowering plants and grasses.

Finishing touches include lighting, a centrally located water feature, decorative shed and matching wood store.
